Management Is A Way Of Life

Management has been variously defined by different authors, management practitioners, management institutes, scholars, stakeholders, elites and even the layman. They look at it from different perspective depending on how the concept is applicable to them. This formed the basis for the verse and increasing schools of thought.

While studying this course at school, I felt it is what we practice everyday, but brought to the classroom as crude as it is, refined and re-branded and presented to us in a more acute and understandable manner such that we better apply the concept's principles to our daily living and for the betterment of the community wherein we find ourselves.

From scientifically-oriented principles to the human-relation and to the behavioural principles and modern approaches; all still focus on one thing: HOW WE MANAGE OURSELVES AND OTHERS FOR ACHIEVEMENT OF SET GOALS. This concept is more understandable and appreciates when we move out of the covens of its rudiments and theories and begin to imbibe and imbibe until it becomes part of us such that it begins to flow and radiate in our daily living and in our relationship with others.

Management cuts across every facet of life - marriage, finance, family life, business, governance, administration, morals, spiritual, etc - and the reason why we continue to have problems in our society is because a lot of people lack the basic understanding and application of management concepts. Spiritually, one cannot walk with God without being self-control, proper coordination of the spirit, body, soul and the mind and also without proper planning, monitoring and organization of what God has endowed us with and the ministry he has committed into ones hand.

Marriage without management principles is going to suffer loss. How do you coordinate the children and manage the most difficult to manage creature on earth 'women'. In fact, some firms only recruit married people into some certain positions believing that if you could have manage your home (without being divorced), then you can manage the position well.

What of finance? Either personal or business money, without proper management, the whole thing will crumble. How do you invest without management concept? How do you differentiate between using your money to buy asset or liability without proper understanding of the concept of financial management? One can go on and on to talk about this concept of management as it is applicable to our daily living.

The layman practices this on daily basis. It is a way of life, but they practice it in a crude, unrefined manner. The ongoing process (as I can see) of making everyone in different works of life (graduates) by the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered), NIM, by a way of partnering with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Nigeria, is a welcoming idea to be applauded. Every professional could at least have basic knowledge of management and with this they become better prepared to take care of their business, organization, home, family, community, etc, in a more effective and efficient way; thus helping us build a strong and reliant economic flooded with sound management practitioners capable of changing things and moving grounds.

Thus, what I see is a new Nigeria where in every single family, a management professional is there to make things straight and by the virtue of the code of conducts to which they sworn becomes a guiding watch word to run their life in the course of time.

This is the way management should be approached - a way of life that goes beyond mere class teaching. I am proud to be one. Get its knowledge!

5 Paths to an Instant Managed Life

There are two roads when making every decision. The road traveled more often and the road less travelled. For some, taking the road traveled would be the easier path - Less worries, less responsibilities and risks, less everything. But, taking the road less traveled, you would face risk and challenges because you are braving the unknown.

Remember, taking the road less traveled would be risky and harder but in life, the road to success is always harder. If success was easy, everyone would have it and it would not be called success anymore because everyone would be pretty much the same. You cannot manage your time. There is no such thing as time management according to Dr. John Maxwell, a leadership guru. He did say you can manage your life though. Here are some advices I gathered while growing up on how to manage my life.

1. You write down what matters most to you; what you consider to be most important. It could be anything you have your mind set on. After that, fill in a weekly planner and enter what you're doing each hour (or maybe not each hour, maybe each day, or half a day) for the next 2 weeks. When you've completed your planner, review it and cut out the activities that take you away from what you consider to be most important to you.

2. Write down your goals both business and personal on the same planner. Choose the top ones on your list and try to focus your time, energy and resources on them.

3. Learn to say 'No'. - You can't take time for your life and what you want to achieve without learning to say 'no' to others. Saying no is a big stepping stone to learning how to prioritize and achieving your goals. Read this on how to say no, to avoid lengthy discussions.

4. Let your money work for you-An example would be, to shop on-line and pay for the extra freight or postage. Use a courier. Find someone else to do the 'running around'. In tasks, try to outsource those tasks that is taking precious time and pay someone else to do it. This won't work if you are receiving a measly lump of sum but, you can find a way or two.

5. Get Coached - Every top performer gets coached. You cannot be on top of your game just on your ability alone. One of the highest paying jobs here in the United States now is having a life coach. It is a status symbol if you have one.

Always be prepared, and try to teach, as well as and learn at the same time. Because the time you share what you know, will be the time when you will grow. Always remember, life happens once in a lifetime but, you can choose to have life or no life at all while living it.

4 Life Management Tips You Probably Haven't Considered

I once read an article in a business magazine about wealthy people and how busy many of them are. Private jets come in handy when there's a meeting in New York, a production line to oversee in California, and clients to pursue in Japan. Yet there's one thing we ALL have in common with the wealthy...24 hours. No more, no less. You can easily see the direction your life is going with the way you spend your 24. Certainly you can't impact the world lazing around, procrastinating, fantasizing, and wishing for your dream come true.

Before there were planes, trains, or automobiles one person managed to spend his life from birth to death making impact. Using his feet, the support of 12 friends (even the one who betrayed him had a purpose), and word of mouth advertising he was so effective we still talk about, worship, and study him today. You know who it is...Jesus! How in the world did he have the time to teach at age 12, cultivate relationships, have a lucrative carpentry business, heal people, raise the dead, and still be at peace with himself?! Yes, I know he is God, but he was also human. Can we do what he did? I believe the answer is emphatically YES! Jesus left an instruction book with no hidden answers. I found His process and if put to use, we can be effective in our calling too!

1. Get away from the crowd (sometimes). Luke 4:42 says that after Jesus healed and set free ALL night, when it was day, "he departed and went into a deserted place."

2. Know your position. People love to follow greatness, especially when you're living out your life's purpose. In the same verse above, the crowd came looking for him and "tried to keep him from leaving them." The crowd never gets tired and will demand more of your time and attention at your expense. Wasn't he just with them ALL night?

3. Know your purpose, stay focused and don't be influenced, no matter how enticing the offer. Luke 4:43 teaches that Jesus wisely resisted the crowd. Here he was a celebrity, with people pulling for him and begging him to stay, yet he told them "I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent."

4. Retreat often. Greatness and influence require rejuvenation. Luke 5:16 says "so He himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed." Because his priorities were in check, Jesus knew where His strength was and visited often to recharge and receive further instruction for the work He had to do.

So can you do it? Absolutely. Will it be easy? Probably not. Is it worth it? Most definitely. Jesus set the example for us to follow, with only 33 years to do it. No matter what your age, if you're not living purposefully, you're wasting time. Nobody asked you to raise the dead. Just raise your level of performance to be the best you can be.
